Innsider: December 2023

December is idyllic in the Hudson Valley, where small town holiday spirit is everywhere you look. People drive from near and far to cut their own Christmas trees at many of our tree farms; every town has a light festival, or a holiday parade; and historical mansions that dot the river banks get decked out in holiday spirit and run holiday programs from Christmas caroling to poetry readings.

A PEEK INNSIDE DECEMBER: EVERGREEN MARTINI

This time of year the scent of Spruce and Fir are an inspiring scent throughout your home, from wreaths and holiday trees…but why stop there? We brought that holiday aroma into a gin martini! Just cut a few steams from your backyard evergreen and steep equal parts aromatic, sugar and water; but be careful NOT to use Yew…as they are highly toxic.

 Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces Gin or Vodka
  • 1/2 ounce white cranberry juice
  • splash lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce Evergreen simple syrup

Directions:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice
  • Add gin, juices, and simple syrup.
  • Shake vigorously until well chilled
  • Strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with a sprig of evergreen and a cranberry.
