July is a great time to enjoy a variety of activities in Hudson Valley. The area will have plenty of Independence Day celebrations for you to choose from. And, lots of outdoor activities are available during the month, including minor league baseball games, theatrical productions, and farmers’ markets. Millbrook and the surrounding areas will have a number of Independence Day celebrations, highlighted, of course, by fireworks displays. At Dutchess Stadium, you can watch an evening Hudson Valley Renegades game and experience a great fireworks display afterwards. Or, head down to the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie and watch a fireworks display over the river. If you’re not interested in fireworks, head out to Hyde Park for a morning Independence Day parade, starting at 10:00 a.m. Check out the link below for details on these, and many other, events.

Hudson Valley Renegades

Spend an afternoon or evening taking in one of our own Hudson Valley Renegades games. The Hudson Valley Renegades are our high-A local minor league baseball team.
They’re affiliated with the Yankees and are part of the South Atlantic League. All home games are played at Dutchess Stadium. Most home games are at night, but a few are in the afternoon, especially games played on Sunday. Tickets prices are reasonable, sometimes as low as $13.

Bard College SummerScape

Take in a show at Bard College’s SummerScape. Bard College SummerScape is eight weeks of live productions, including live music, dance, and theater. Productions for July include Richard Strauss’s comic opera, The Silent Woman; the dance-theater performance Song of Songs; and the tragicomedy theatrical production of Dom Juan. There are plenty of other events for you to enjoy at SummerScape. Times vary, but most productions are in the evening. Tickets start at $25..

Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival

If you’re a fan of the Bard, then this festival is for you! Founded in 1987, a critically acclaimed non-profit theater festival performs in an open-air tent overlooking the Hudson River. The Inn is the perfect base to enjoy the annual September event.

Millbrook Farmers Market

Pick up fresh fruits, vegetables, and more from local vendors. At the Millbrook Farmers Market, you can find locally harvested fruits and vegetables, plants and flowers, jams and jellies, and much, much more. The market features food vendors from Millbrook and the surrounding areas. You can also find a variety of other items, including quilts, gifts, and vintage items. The Millbrook Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Trevor Zoo

Trevor Zoo, located at Millbrook School, was established in 1936. It’s the only zoo in the United States that’s part of a high school campus. The zoo covers six acres and housed 80 animal species, including nine endangered species. This is a great place to take the whole family. Kids will especially enjoy interacting with the zoo animals. Admission is very reasonable (currently $6 for adults, and $4 for kids).
