Hudson Valley May Events and Activities

In May, Hudson Valley has numerous unique activities for you to enjoy. Explore an apple orchard in full bloom, visit a world-famous garden, take in a ballgame, or hang out with llamas and alpacas. These, and many more, attractions are open to you this month. We've listed a few of our favorite May activities below.

Apple Blossom Festival at Barton Orchards

Location: 63 Apple Tree Lane, Poughquag, NY

Barton Orchards is a 175-acre apple orchard and vegetable farm, located in Poughquag, New York. Each year, in early May, they hold their Apple Blossom Festival. This year, the festival takes place on May 4-5 and May 11-12, starting at 11:00 a.m each day. The orchard's apple trees should be in full bloom, creating an amazing display of color for you to enjoy. Barton Orchards also has plenty of other events during the festival, including hayrides and live music performances. And, they have an ice cream shop and tap room onsite. During the Apple Blossom Festival, there's not admission fee, and parking is free. Leashed dogs are allowed, and Barton Farms even has a dog park where you can let your pet roam unleashed. Innisfree Garden Opening

Location: 362 Tyrrel Road, Millbrook, NY

Innisfree Garden, located just a few miles from Millbrook Inn, is considered one the ten best gardens in the world. This 185-acre public garden was first created in 1930. It's design is primarily the work of landscape architect Lester Collins and artist Walter Beck. The property features garden scenes inspired by Chinese paintings, as well as traditional Chinese and Japanese design principles. The grounds also include a calm, peaceful lake, and a number of streams and waterfalls. Note that you have to make reservations to visit Innisfree Garden, so plan ahead.

Hudson Valley Renegades at Dutchess Stadium

Location: 1500 NY-9D, Wappingers Falls, NY

The Hudson Valley Renegades are our area minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees, and their 2022 is in full swing! Home games are played at Dutchess Stadium, which is a short drive from Millbrook Inn. Taking in a Renegades game is a great activity that the entire family will enjoy. You can even bring your dog. And, after a game, kids can head out to the infield and run the bases. Tickets are surprisingly inexpensive (typically between $15 and $25), and you can buy them in advance or on game day.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

Location: 9 Norton Road, Red Hook, NY
Distance from us: 29.6 miles

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a world-renowned aircraft museum. Here, you can explore a collection of more than 60 vintage aircraft from the Pioneer Era through the Golden Age of aviation. Many of these meticulously restored aircraft are airworthy. The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome groups many of its exhibits in buildings based on era. For example, aircraft are displayed in the Pioneer Building, the WWI Building, and Golden Age Building. Besides visiting the museum, you can schedule a ride in an authentic open-cockpit biplane (a 1929 New Standard D-25). Starting in June, the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome also offers air shows in the weekends.

Lamaste Yoga at Clover Brooke Farm

Location: 175 Ruskey Lane, Hyde Park, NY

Want to try something really unique? Drop by Clover Brooke Farm, and take part in an outdoor yoga session surrounded by llamas and alpacas. You don't have to have any yoga experience, and, in fact, the sessions are intended for beginners. Note that you do have to register in advance for the sessions, so be sure to call ahead.
